Italica Introduces Extra Virgin Olive Oil With Omega-3s

March 2007

Italica Imports has introduced the first extra virgin olive oil enriched with omega-3 fatty acids. As endorsed by the FDA in 2004, 2 tablespoons of olive oil per day may reduce coronary heart disease risk.

Derived from hake, salmon, and codfish, the omega-3s in Italica’s new product are incorporated into the olive oil during the bottling process. Omega-3s have been proven to reduce stress and play a crucial role in the prevention of stress-related conditions such as cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, dementia, and depression.

Wellness Foods Trends Overview

December 2006

Market analysis group Business Insights Ltd. reported earlier this year that the following key markets trends will compromise the lion's share of the future of wellness foods and beverages:
  • Heart health - R&D experts are reformulating products to include ingredients, such as plant sterols, soy whole grains and tea, that actively protect the heart. Lead heart-health trend categories are snacks, bakery and cereals, dairy, oils and fats.
  • Well-being - manufacturers are driving the trend by highlighting the wellness ingredients of a product through marketing and on the packaging, as well as reformulating products to include ingredients that promote well-being, such as antioxidants and pre- and probiotics. Lead product categories in the well-being trend are soft drinks, snacks, dairy, hot drinks and meal substitutes. Many products in these categories contain ingredients such as pre- and probiotics and antioxidants to promote digestive health and immunity.
  • Italica Imports Debuts Imported Lines

    March 22, 2007

Italica Imports, one of the leading producers and distributors of Spanish olive oil in the United States, introduced two new olive product lines. Italica is now certified organic, and has created their own line of organic olives. They are also introducing two varieties of extra large imported Kalamata olives. These new product lines will be available for distribution and sale as Italica brand or as your store brand.

Under the new label, Italica Organics, the company’s line of organic olives will include three varieties of whole, imported organic olives — Green Empeltre, Giant Green and Green Manzanilla. Each olive variety is a true organic product, and extremely well priced. All are packaged in 8 oz. glass jars and are priced just above standard green olives. In fact, Italica’s Organic olives can retail at 50 percent below other organic specialty olives.

Say you saw a product in the supermarket that promised it would deposit a colony of bacteria in your colon. Would you buy it?

If it referred to the bacteria as a friendly "probiotic" that could boost digestive health, yes, it turns out, you would. Based on advertising and packaging that claimed eating Dannon's Activia yogurt every day for two weeks would "reduce long intestinal transit time," customers spent about $130 million on the product in 2006.

"It's been the single most successful product launch in the history of yogurt," said Michael Neuwirth, a spokesman for The Dannon Co. in White Plains. "Digestive regularity is a real issue in this country."
